Hairspiration!

As you may or may not know I just received a haircut. Now let me tell you. I had really long hair which I usually love but it was beginning to become to much of a hassle for me. So like many issues I like to nip it in the bud. So I did what any sensible girl would have done. I chopped it all off. I was looking for a cut and length that can be very versatile. I like to change up my hair often, so choosing the right cut was crucial for myself. I say I'm quite satisfied with the finished results...Heck, who am I kidding, I am in LOVE!

Here are the styles I was very much inspired by.

This was my hair before the cut!
And here are the afters. These are a few styles I've tried out. Still more to come!

Well that's all for now folks!

I thought I saw your face today . . .

Look at that girl
With a piper's smile
As she blows kisses in the wind
Dark brown curls
And kitschy style
nothing but fall aparts to lend

Raccoon eyes and Cupid's bow lips
Rosebud cheeks and two cent tips

She's really something else . . .

by: April

I spent this entire day mostly listening to She and Him. I just adore the musical stylings of M. Ward and Zooey Deschanel. So while I was listening to them for lets just say my third or fourth hour, I decided to look at some of my favorite Zooey photos. While sifting through a heap a photos I ran across one particular photo. It shows Zooey with darling makeup very reminiscent of the 1920's flapper style. She had gorgeous messy curls. Smeared eyeliner, and adorable cupid bow lips. Just so incredibly wonderful.
It's part flapper and part late 60's groupie.

Needless to say I was very Inspired. Here is my take on her hair and makeup. I know it's not 100% accurate or perfect. But after all this is an inspired look. Not a replica. Because, C'mon let's face it, no one can replicate Zooey.

There's thieves among us, painting the walls.
With all kind of lies and lies, I never told it all.
What's in my pocket, you never knew.
You didn't know me well, so well as I knew you.

I guess it's no Secret. . .

So many people who know me will tell you that I am in love with Jimmy Page. Now laugh all you want but those people will be right. Ever since I was a young child I had this huge crush on him. I remember watching Led Zeppelin concert footage and being completely enthralled by the entire band. I would watch those old recorded VHS tapes over and over again. Each time I watched them, I just couldn't seem to take my eyes off of Jimmy. I don't know what it is about James that I adore so much. Is it his beautiful smokey grey eyes, so intense. Or maybe it's the way he plays the guitar so passionately. Like when he's on stage it's just him and his guitar and no one else. Maybe it's the way his luscious dark locks of hair cradle that angelic face. Maybe it's the way he can wear purple crush velvet, or maybe it was the flaming dragons running up his thighs...I really don't know. How do you describe the attraction to such a man? Now I can sit here and analyze the whole thing repeatedly but I'll get nowhere.
Ahhhh! Seriously, how can you look at that face and not swoon over him?

There's something about his demeanor and character that I find so charming. Although, he is English, and that adorable accent does have it's advantage to us American Girls. It's really unfair when you think about it. But there are plenty more unfair things I can think about in this situation. like the fact that I am 19 years old in 2011, and he's. . .well he's 67 years old. Time sucks. Oh how I wish there were such a thing as a Delorean time machine. Man if there was such a thing I would floor it back to 1968 and meet the man of my dreams. Let's just pray somewhere out there, there's a mad scientist working on that right now.
Dapper. . . Yeah?
I really am just rambling on about this now.
But gaahhh He's just so beautiful

And a girl can dream can't she =)

I'll let you in on another little secret. I will play the beginning line of Achilles Last Stand, just because my name April is in it. Aha I like to pretend that song was for me. Although I must admit if any Zeppelin song could be directed towards me it would be either: Tangerine, Going to California, That's the Way, Thank you, or Fool in the Rain...shoot who am I kidding I would want all Zeppelin songs written just for me. Oh and if you want to hear Jimmy sing...yes I said SING. Listen to "She just Satisfies" by Jimmy Page....amazing!

Bee Bee Girl

So I'm really sad to say that our family Chow Chow Bee Bee died yesterday. Now I know that some people think it's ridiculous to be so devastated when losing a pet, but Bee Bee was a part of our family. She was there to comfort every family member, and watch over us. She was the most amazing guard dog. She was sweet, especially for a Chow. I never saw the kind of aggression in that dog, that some people describe as common in Chows. She had quite the personality too. She was named Bee Bee, as a kind of nod to Betty Boop(B.B), but as she got older, her named took a more literal turn. She used to sit in front of bushes and plants, and literally eat bees. And no matter how much she got stung, she still sat there and ate bees. I'm really going to miss that. I remember coming home everyday from school, and she was always waiting by the gate for me. Excited to see me. As soon as I came into the yard, she would run up the porch as I approached it and then turn around and face me. She would just wait there patiently for me to greet her. I would pet her face and give her a little kiss on her wet puppy nose. It became such a routine, that now, not being able to do that anymore, just doesn't see right. I think I'm going to miss that the most. No matter how old she got, she still behaved like the youthful puppy she was at heart. She loved to go on walks. She would practically jump on top of you as soon as you pulled the leash out. Aha I remember walking her one time. Her leash came off and she still trotted along. I was distracted for a moment, didn't even notice she was yards away from me. Having to chase her, and of course Bee Bee still unaware that I was trying to chase her down. Another time she spotted a gopher, and almost took me along for the ride down a very steep hill. Always youthful and happy that dog was. Bee Bee was always full of quirky traits. From chasing rocks when thrown, to lying in gravel trying to scratch her own back. She would even bark staring at the door just for us to let her in and out. I guess she thought she was to sophisticated to use the dog door like Missy Dash. I loved finding her snoring as loud as can be on the couch. Or occasionally finding her in my room sleeping on my bed( it's a real treat specially since she decided to roll in dirt beforehand). Just so many things that I look back on and laugh, but sad to know I wont see them again. Bee Bee always had a cute Teddy bear face, which seemed to me like she was always smiling. She was a Christmas Gift to the family back in 96', and we lost her on April 25Th, 2011. I'm never going to forget that day. I really wasn't expecting it at all. The day before, on Easter, she seemed perfectly fine. But as the next day rolled around it was everything but fine. I'm just glad I got to be there to comfort her in her last moments of life. She seemed to be in pain, and a familiar face and voice seemed to make her feel more comfortable. I love that dog so much. And I'm really sad to have to see her go. But she lived a great life, living up to 15 years of age. We had a good run with Bee Bee, and even though she's gone. Her presence will always be around. She made way to many memories in that home, to never ever forget her. I love you Bee Bee girl...

This was her smiling face I adored so much...
And Bee Bee not too amused on Christmas aha
Not a pleasant suprise. She rolled around in dirt and decided to take a nap on my bed. I was NOT a happy camper. But looking back on it now I find it kinda funny.
Puppy eyes

I Love you Bee Bee Girl.

Lace and Paper Flowers

First off I haven't blogged in quite a while. So I apologize for that. Not that I think anyone reads my blog anyway aha. But I haven't been up to much. Actually I spent the entire last weekend watching "Bones" on Netflix. And may I say I'm torn between Hodgins and Lance Sweets. Ahh swoon =) But enough about that. Lets talk the present.

Okay so I've been listening to Fleetwood Mac all day. As well as just staring at photos of the original "Gold Dust Woman" herself Stevie Nicks. So needless to say that inspired me so style myself after her. I just put some waves in my hair with a little bit of Beyond the Zone Noodle Head. And as for makeup I used rust/bronze colors. With just a hint of gold. When I think of Stevie, I think about her Ethereal quality she possesses. I think of flowing chiffon, and well...lace and paper flowers(10 points if you know which song the last two were from without having to search around). She dressed like a Gypsy, although Stevie herself describes it Witchy, notably calling her uniform Stevie Garb.

So here are some photos that inspired me. As well as a list of songs that really get me into my Stevie mode: Rhiannon, Gypsy, Gold Dust Woman, Dreams.
And here are photos of myself in Stevie Garb. Just a for warning there are a plethora of photos below...and yes, they are all of myself.
Side note: I feel that me being brunette, this is more reminiscent of Grace Slick and Ann Wilson.
And yet some more...
And lastly some pictures of the eyemakeup. Please excuse my brows. I'm in need of some tweezing.
And I did purposely put my nail in there. I thought the pink music note was adorable =)

Well I think that it for this post!

April...do you still do youtube?

Hey Everyone! So I just wanted to elaborate a bit on my YouTube channel. Now I know it has been about a year since my last makeup tutorial. I was going to school at the time and I was so busy with that, that I hadn't the time to make one. But there is something else. It has been brought to my attention that you guys would love to see a live tutorial. And I would love to give you guys a live tutorial. The problem with that is that my camera that I use in not compatible with the editing software I have on my computer. In order for me to make a decent makeup tutorial I will have to be able to edit the clips. So I really wanted to hold off on that until I get either a new camera or new software. When I start making tutorials again I want it to be the best quality as possible. So I hope that you guys can bear with me on that. But maybe I can do beauty halls or something in the meantime. On a good note, I have so many ideas for makeup tutorials. I cant wait! Lately I've been jotting down ideas that would so fun, plus I haven't seen people do them before. I would love to tell you guys the details but I rather it be a surprise. There are so many cool things coming up. And for those of you who have stayed subscribed even during my long absence, thank you so much. I honestly cant thank you enough. I make YouTube vids because I enjoy it. And if I can help anyone with my videos, well that's the best thing in the world.

Well Gotta go, but I just wanted to say thank you, and I wanted to give you guys a heads up =)

Confessions of a Groupie

Pamela Des Barres: groupie, muse, and my hero. I have an infinite amount of respect and admiration for this woman. Now I know what you are thinking…. groupie??? Now let me rephrase the word “groupie” so that modern man can understand. Miss Pamela was a famous groupie during the 60’s and 70’s. During the time when being a groupie just meant that you enjoyed the company of musical groups. You hung around and partied with them, and yes even became good friends and had intimate or platonic relationships with them. It wasn't until later years when the word groupie was associated with just any girl who likes to fuck band members. Not to say there is anything wrong with that. A woman can do with her body what she pleases. But in today's society groupie takes on a negative connotation. One that I think we need to reclaim. And restore to it's original meaning.
So now that we are all up to speed with the word groupie, I can explain more about Miss Pamela. Now she started off like the typical wholesome, apple pie, American girl, but later became the free spirited, independent kindred live wire, we all know and love. She decorated her walls with photos of Elvis and Dion. She was infatuated with the Beatles and Stones as a youngin’. She made out with Jim Morrison. She daydreamed about Nicholas St. Nicholas (too the point she wrote a song about him called “the Ooh Ooh Man”). She had a passionate relationship with Jimmy Page. She hung out and babysat for the Zappas. She lived with Don Johnson. She was in the colorful all girl groupie group called the GTO’s (girls together outrageously) the “O” could stand for anything. She partied with Keith moon and The Who. She was an inspirational target for those glorious songs our favorite rock gods wrote. She has traveled all over the world, and has seen many beautiful things in her life. She has had the opportunity to spend time with many of the people we only wish we knew. She has lived the life, and still lives the life I know I hope and could only dream of having.
Her story isn’t all about great lays and boys. She has more to offer the reader. Miss Pamela is poet. One who could put even the most skilled poets to shame, and with her insightful poems and commentary is a new perspective on life. She helped me realize things I would have never even consider if it wasn’t for her story. She is a woman wise beyond her years, and the best part is that she isn’t some glorified celebrity like we have today. But a real woman, a real person, someone who you can relate to even though she has had an outrageous life. I being only 15 when I first read her book “ I’m With the Band: Confessions of a Groupie”, was able to relate. Miss Pamela brings you the reader into her life. She takes you through this amazing, exciting, compelling roller coaster. Every feeling, every emotion, you feel every tear through her words. Now I know that you probably don’t understand what I mean right now. But that’s the beauty of it. It takes you through your own personal journey, while she discovers herself. The only thing I could do really is encourage you to read it yourself. And I Promise you wont be sorry.
Miss Pamela is my hero. And if I can aspire to be anyone, it would be her. Reading her story is like reading a private diary, one with juicy details, insightful entries, and a real connection. That’s the thing with Pamela, is that you can actually connect with her. Now I can ramble on forever about this woman, but I haven’t enough time. But if I could tell her one thing, that one thing would be “thank you”.

A day in the life of April

So many, if any are reading this, you are probably wondering who I am. So I feel that a little introduction is in order. I'm that girl you see wondering around with the bright crazy makeup. The quirkiest fashion. Listening to music that your parents rock out to. That girl who you question whether or not she knows what era she's living in....yeah that girl. So far in my life I've been told I was weird. And maybe I am. That's not something I'm going to try to argue against. The most peculiar things catch my eye. My normal is someones abnormal. And I'm perfectly content with it.

I'm a wild child, a free spirit, a live wire, a flower child, a Lolita, a muse, and some may say groupie obsessed(60's 70's groupies, that were more than just girls who slept with the band, they were inspiration to such life altering songs). I may be many things, but most of all I'm April.

If I could pick a few songs that describe me, and the way I feel towards myself, and towards life take a listen to a few of these songs.

"Tiny Dancer" - Elton John
"American Girl" - Tom Petty
"Going to California" - Led Zeppelin
"Rebel Rebel" - David Bowie

All parts of my personality, at different worlds.

But the very first verse of "Tiny Dancer" describes me. And yes, I do hope to marry a music man someday...
