For Those Who Love To Live

You know, I can think of very few things as magical as Phil Lynott's voice. He had the kind of voice that reminds me of crushed velvet. You run your hand over the luxe fabric one way and it's soft, smooth, delicate even. Then you run your hand the other way, and now it's a little bit rough and raspy, but still satisfying. There's something so undeniably electric about him and the music he created with Thin Lizzy. I honestly do find myself missing him more and more each day, and getting forever sad that I'll never get to witness that magic in person. But being forever grateful that for a few moments, I can put on one of his records, those sounds can pour into my bedroom, and for those few moments, he's alive. I think that's what I love most about music, being able to connect and live vicariously through it.

Look at me being fake deep, lmao! But I need you guys to understand how much I love Thin Lizzy, and how much I adore Phil. Saying that they're one of my favorite bands would be such an understatement. And although I feel all the above sentiments quite deeply, perhaps I shouldn't be so wax poetic about it. So bear with me, because I don't think I'm quite done making a fool of myself.

I know it's super cheesy, and I'm sure I can find better use of my time, but don't you ever just love imagining yourself in another time and space? Granted the past in no walk in the park for a lot of people. And aside from fashion, style, and music, the past can be quite awful. But I admit, I love envisioning my life as a rockstar obsessed groupie in the 70s. I know that would be my calling, ha! You know, just dedicating myself and all my affection to those gorgeous musicians. You know that scene in Grease 2 (the more superior Grease, obviously), where Michelle Pfeiffer is dancing around, doing a whole routine on a step ladder, inside out bomber jacket, feathered hair, singing about how she wants a cool rider? That's me about Phil! No joke! He's my cool rider!

Anyways, it's no secret on this blog that I love to play dress up. On some nights, when I can't fall asleep, I just love putting on some groovy tunes, getting completely dolled up, turning on my red and pink Giallo -esque lighting, and taking selfies, because what else would you do? So in order for me to feel my full 1976 fantasy, I put on my black circle zipper body suit, black jeans, and to really set the mood, Thin Lizzy's Fighting record playing in the background. And then I get to work. On this particular night, I wanted to try a makeup look that would be a bit of an homage to the Thin Lizzy logo,specifically their silver mirror stage signs (I could've sworn I seen one hanging up in Metallica's HQ, and I know a few others have collected them in the past) and silly me, didn't really get any photos of it. But I created a black graphic double winged liner look, chased by some sparkly silver glitter. I also wanted to capture that feel of Philo's bass, his beautiful bass with that mirrored pickguard, and how it catches the stage lights, like a flash of lightning!

I decided to pair that eye with an ultra glossy lip. A makeup look that made me feel cool and rock n roll! Fun and edgy, but not like I was trying too hard, even though, I was! lmao! Now, a made up face is a real fine way to start, but I really wanted the look to feel complete. So I took my hair straightener and started flipping my hair out. Brushing through it, aqua netting it in position. Trying to achieve that perfect feathered look. Think Sylvie Vartan in the 70s, or even a Runaways member! I finished the whole look off with some dreamy lighting and a pair of red rhinestoned heart shaped glasses. Here's the end product!

This post is a bit of a mess. It's been ages since I've uploaded anything on here. I'd Like to thank Lizz and Beka for inspiring me to post something new! I forgot how much I used to love writing on here! Also, I do plan on making a tutorial on this look, and I'll add it to here when I finally make it. I'm gonna be surprised if anyone made it this far, but I'd love to send my thanks and gratitude your way if you did! Bobby Soxer Baby

Pretty ribbons tied up into bows gracing the tops of our heads, rolled up socks and saddle shoes, these are the kind of things that make my heart light up with joy and dreaminess.

I adore the whole 1940's Bobby Soxer look! Well, the whole 1940's - 1950's look was a dream. But my favorite thing is looking like a schoolgirl from those eras. Soft wavy curls, ruby red lips, tight sweaters, white socks, scuffed up saddles shoes, vinyl records, and a smile to charm all the boys hearts!

It had been a while since I wore ribbons in my hair. In fact, I can't remember when the last time was. You should have seen the look on my face when my best friend brought over a late Christmas present for

me tied up in a pretty ribbon. I immediately tied this beautiful cream colored ribbon into my hair! And just like that I felt like a vintage sweetheart! It made me miss all the times I used to wear ribbons in my hair. Memories of myself from elementary school flashed through my head! I remember wanting to look just like Matilda and Sandy from Grease, haha! Even Judy Garland as Dorothy wore pretty blue ribbons in her hair!
Then we have saddled shoes with the rolled up socks! I remember owning a pair of saddle shoes when I was about four years old! I just adored them. I remember my mother trying to get me to take them off and me not letting her. I would wear them around the house all day. Then the dreaded moment of finally

outgrowing them approached and I didn't get my next pair until well into adulthood. But the situation is still the same, good luck trying to get me out of these shoes, haha!

So all this reminiscing made me want to dedicate a post just to the whole bobby soxer aesthetic! So I dug up some photos I had buried in some inspiration folders I had stored away on my computer. I love the comb tucked away into a girl's sock! You never know when you'll need to comb your hair, my guess is often, haha. And the groups of cool looking bobby soxer girls hanging out

in the middle of the hall. I wonder what all they talked about? I can only imagine it was about their favorite records and perhaps chit chatting about the cutest boys? And then this diagram about bow placement and what it tells people! I guess I'm always out to get a man because I love my bow at the top of my head!

And here we have a photo of Vicki Trickett as Abby in "Gidget Goes Hawaiian". Now she's not a bobby soxer, and this was filmed in 1961, but I just loved her look in this particular scene. Of course I'm a sucker for her cute pink nightgown! This is basically what I would have in mind as cute slumber party attire. isn't it the most! And the way her hair looks in this scene is probably my number one inspiration, and the one I based my look down below on. Her cute pink bow gives just the right

touch, don't you think? It just adds a super sweet element to an already adorable look!

We can't forget the wonderful Judy Garland as Dorothy Gale in the film "The Wizard of Oz". She wore pretty blue ribbons in her hair. First as cute pigtails in the beginning of the film up until they reach Emerald City. Then her cute pigtails turn into a long wavy hair-do. And adorning her new look was a pretty ribbon tied at the top of her hair!

And for last is a super adorable gif of our favorite little rascal Darla from "Our Gang"! I swear this is exactly how I looked like as a little child. Except maybe my fringe was a bit choppier (keep me away from scissors!). She looks absolutely precious here!

Now I know I've kinda rambled on a bit on this particular post, so I'll speed things up a bit now. So here's the basic process of this look. I took a curling wand and curl 1 inch sections of my hair. Curling downward. After curling, I sprayed my hair with some Aqua net hairspray. I then brushed it out with a paddle brush. I sprayed more hairspray and ran my hand over the waves to smooth out any fly aways. I rolled the front section of my fringe and pinned it to get that rolled bang. I then took my freshly pressed ribbon and tied it around my head! Hair's done!

For makeup I just applied a light layer of foundation on my face, buffing it in with a kabuki brush. I filled in my eyebrows as per usual. I placed a bit of brown eye shadow on my lids and took black liquid eyeliner and made small wings. A coat of mascara finishes the eyes off. And for cheeks I just used a bit of pink lipstick. I then set my entire face, except for the cheeks, with matte face powder. I topped off the whole look with a rich matte red lip! And Voila, look completed! I thought it would be fun to slip on my saddle shoes and don a pretty red circle skirt for the look!

I put on some Everly Brothers (still in shock to hear about Phil's passing) and got to snapping away some photos! very pic heavy!

Style Icons: Pat Bjelland and Courtney Love

I was asked recently on Tumblr to do a Kat Bjelland/Courtney Love Kinderwhore inspired look. I was a bit hesitant at first because I wasn't too familiar with the background of this particular aesthetic. With some research I found out that the Kinderwhore look was inspired by Chrissy Amphlett's look on the Divinlys album cover of "Desperate". The Kinderwhore look was also supposed to be ironic in contrast to the music these women were making. Here you had adult women dresses as prepubescent little girls. Baby doll dresses, knee-highs, and mary jane shoes. Their faces were painted up with loads of eyeliner, mascara, and red lipstick. Think Lolita meets What ever happened to Baby Jane? Very animated. Here they are dressed as society's vision of what every perfect little girl should look like, but being ruthless, playing their guitars loud, and singing raw vocals!

Here's my take on the look! Could be messier but I'm happy with the results!

I've been really digging this disco dancing queen curly hair! It's soft, full, has great movement, and makes me nostalgic for a time I never lived through. I admit, I often overlook the 70's when it comes to aesthetic purposes. I like bouffants, pin curls, angora sweaters, and circle skirts. I mean, music wise, the 70's were an amazing decade, but I really never paid much attention to it style wise. That is, until I started submerging myself into 70's culture. I started off by sifting through old playboy pictorials and spreads. I love how soft all the photos looked. Actually dreamy! And I do mean everything looked soft. The feathered hair, bouncy curls, pastel colored eyelids, dusted down rosy cheeks, even down to the silk and satin lingerie. I adored it. It was almost as if the photos were taken in a room that still had cigarettes smoke lingering making the room hazy. Really something!

Then I started watching old horror films from the 70's. Films like "I Spit on your Grave" and "Carrie". That allowed me to see these styles in movement. I particularly loved that last scene in Carrie, with Sue Snell leaving flowers on Carrie's grave. Sue looked so ethereal in that dream sequence! And I feel like that really embodied the 70's disco loving teen dream look.

Here are some photos that left me inspired! We have the Queen of Disco Donna Summer. Miss Groupie Supreme Karen Umphrey. Amy Irving as Sue Snell. And some Marc Jacobs Fall 2013 Models. Oh, the Love's Baby Soft ad is a bit cringe worthy, but I still adore the hair and makeup of the model on the ad.

So I put on one of my favorite Pat Benatar tunes "Rated X", it's about a glamorpuss in the adult industry, living it up in the limelight, enjoying her glory days! It was originally written and performed by Nick Gilder. Any who, I got to styling and posing for the camera. I really do dig this look, and definitely plan on wearing it out! I adore it!
